Michael BroslerPresident & CEO
Michael is responsible for setting strategic directions and managing the growth of PlaneSmart! Aviation. He is committed to creating an unparalleled experience for all PlaneSmart! clients by ensuring an all-inclusive quality program with a full suite of options to meet the needs of its customers. Prior to taking an ownership position at PlaneSmart!, Michael spent 16 years in the telecommunication industry where he held senior positions in various financial, marketing, operational and regulatory organizations. Michael also founded and developed a film production and marketing business focused on documentary style filmmaking, and commercial advertising. Michael holds an MBA from the University of California, and has been involved in aviation as an aircraft owner and instrument rated pilot for over 30 years.
Jim OwensChief Pilot
Jim is responsible for implementing safety policies, developing and maintaining flight training curriculum, and standardizing procedures for all PlaneSmart pilot customers and employees. He is also the managing supervisor for all staff and contract pilots. Mr. Owens is an Airline Transport Rated pilot, Certified Flight Instructor, Instrument Flight Instructor and Multi-Engine Instructor with 4000+ hours of his 8000+ total time logged as dual given. Jim has type ratings in the Eclipse 500, Cessna 550 and 560 Citation Business Jets, Beechcraft Premier RA390, and is factory trained in the Pilatus PC-12 NG and Piper Meridian. He is also a Gold Seal and a Platinum Certified Cirrus Standardized Instructor Pilot with over 2000 hours logged in the Cirrus aircraft.
James ElginDirector of Market Development
James is responsible for managing existing marketing operations as well as evaluating and executing on business expansion plans and strategic marketing initiatives. He is dedicated to maintain and create unequalled customer value, build the PlaneSmart! respected brand and provide best in class customer experience. Prior to taking the position at PlaneSmart!, James spent most of his career in the corporate world at AT&T where he held leadership positions in finance, marketing, product strategy and regulatory. He has a long standing interest in aviation and plans to complete his pilot training this year. James holds a BS in Engineering and a MBA with concentration in Marketing and Finance.
Hamp ReedDirector of Sales
Hamp is responsible for managing all of the sales and marketing activities for the company. He is dedicated to understanding our customers needs and finding the right products and services to best meet their objectives. Hamp's commitment to providing an exceptional overall experience has served us well since 2007. Hamp is a third generation pilot with over 2,500 flight hours in multiple types of aircraft.
Karen has 14 years of service with increasing responsibilities in the area of Accounting, Finance, I.T., Data Analysis, and Human Resources within a distribution and manufacturing operation. Although she has not worked in Aviation prior to joining PlaneSmart!, she is enjoying the change of pace. Karen holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A) in Accounting and Business, Magna Cum Laude, from Texas Woman’s University, Denton, Texas. She is also completing her MBA to gain CPA eligibility.
Joe BordenDirector of Maintenance
Joe has overall responsibility for directing aircraft maintenance activities at PlaneSmart! Aviation, LLC and PlaneSmart! Charter, LLC. He is a Certified Aviation Maintenance Technician with over 16 years in the business, and holds an Inspection Authorization endorsement. He has extensive background with Pratt and Whitney (PT6A) powered aircraft, and has particular expertise with King Air, Pilatus PC-12, and Piaggio Avanti. He worked at Piaggio Aero Industries as a Field Service technician and is factory trained on the Piaggio P180 Avanti I & II, and the Pro Line avionics suite. Additional experience includes working on Cessna Citations, P&W JT15D, P&W535, Honeywell TFE-731, and Allison 250-B17 (rigging and troubleshooting). Joe is also experienced with military and commercial program management and applies his skills to keeping an airworthy fleet at PlaneSmart!
Tyler AmburnAssistant Chief Pilot
The Assistant Chief Pilot is responsible to help manage a growing number airplanes, employees, and flight operations at PlaneSmart! To that end, in addition to his normal piloting responsibilities, Tyler is the primary point of contact for Senior Pilots and authorized to act on behalf of the Chief Pilot. Tyler joined the company as a pilot in late 2009, relocated to Austin in early 2012 to help grow the region, and returned to Addison mid-2013 once a new foundation was established at KEDC. Tyler is rated as a CFI, CFII, MEI, and is a Platinum level Cirrus Standardized Instructor Pilot. He is also qualified to pilot the Piper Meridian, Pilatus PC12-NG, and King Air 300. With over 4000 hours of total flight experience, 2000+ hours have been logged in Cirrus airplanes.
Stephanie PhillipsManager of Customer Service
Stephanie's passion for aviation began in 2001 when she became a Flight Attendant for Southwest Airlines. In 2007, after six years of safety briefings and 10,000+ bags of peanuts served, she joined the General Aviation community supporting aircraft sales for Diamond and Mooney aircraft. Stephanie joined the PlaneSmart! family in 2009 focused on client services. Her primary focus was scheduling airplanes, accommodating customer travel requests, and ensuring safe and efficient service for our customers. After three years of excellence and commitment, Stephanie was launched into her new role as Manager of Customer Service. Now her focus encompasses general aircraft fleet management and operations at each of the PlaneSmart! base locations. With over 10 years of aviation experience, Stephanie continues to hold safety and customer satisfaction as her top priority.
Brian StrakaRegional Sales Manager
Brian’s original roots stem from the West Coast but he ventured out to New Hampshire to complete an education in aviation. Brian eventually made his way to Texas and has called the Dallas area his home for more than 15 years with his wife and two kids. His love for aviation began long ago and he has enjoyed the journey over the years as either a weekend flyer, instructor, or regional airline pilot. Ultimately his passion for planes and helping people attain their goals has lead him to PlaneSmart! Aviation where he is focusing his talent towards delivering top-rated customer services and helping clients find a solution to their flying needs.
Nick WeberRegional Sales Manager
Nick is PlaneSmart!’s Regional Sales Manager responsible for business development across the Austin, Houston, and San Antonio region. Prior to joining PlaneSmart!, Nick’s aviation career began as an Installation Manager for a globally recognized flight simulator company. During his tenure he was promoted into sales where he distinguished himself as a leading producer in simulator sales. Throughout his career Nick has had the opportunity to work closely with many recognizable aviation organizations such as the NTSB, University of North Dakota, Embry Riddle, and his Alma Mater, University of Central Missouri. As a commercial pilot he has participated in the NBAA Professional Development Program and holds a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Technology, with an Associate degree in Construction Management. Nick currently resides in sunny Austin and enjoys spending time exploring Texas with his wife and their Great Dane, Harper.
Bret LawsonCharter Pilot
Bret is a charter pilot focusing on flight operations for PlaneSmart! Charter. He is CFI, CFII, and MEI rated, and is the lead pilot in the Piaggio P-180 and Cirrus charter aircraft. Prior to charter operations, Brett focused on flight instruction accumulating over 1,500 hours in various types of aircraft. He has a BS in Elementary Education from Nebraska Wesleyan University and taught fourth grade for four years before pursuing his passion in aviation. Bret enjoys the aviation industry and is looking forward to sharing it with his son, Cooper Jet.
Cliff GerberA&P Mechanic
Cliff is responsible for ensuring safety and airworthiness standards are fully addressed on the Cirrus and piston fleet. He is a Certified Cirrus Mechanic and manages repairs under the Limited Service Center operation that is authorized by Cirrus Aircraft at PlaneSmart! Cliff has A&P Mechanic experience at various manufacturers (e.g., V22 Osprey, Cobras and Hueys) as well as at repair stations working on a wide range of aircraft. In addition to an interest in aircraft repair, Cliff is an avid private pilot and holds an instrument rating.
Doug LongakerMaintenance Manager
Doug received his A&P certificate at Westwood College of Aviation Technology in Houston, Texas in 2008. He has been working in the aviation field since earning his certificate, and has extensive experience working on Cirrus aircraft at the authorized Service Center. While Doug specializes in Cirrus, he is experienced working on numerous other airplanes, including Cessna and Beechcraft. Doug is in the process of earning his BS in Aviation Management at Eastern New Mexico University.
Nick LawrenceClient Services Manager
Nick began his journey in aviation while completing a Master’s degree in music composition at the University of North Texas. He worked as a scheduler and systems manager at the local flight school and obtained his private pilot’s license along the way. He then moved to Los Angeles after being accepted into the University of Southern California’s Advanced Studies in Film Scoring program and spent the next 10 years writing music and working numerous day jobs to pay the bills. He stayed in touch with aerospace by working part time at Caltech/JPL for 6 years, picking the brains of aerospace engineers every chance he got. Nick returned to Texas after being accepted into the University of North Texas’s brand new Aviation Logistics degree program. He completed an internship in supply chain management of jet engine repair services at Dallas Airmotive and graduated Magna Cum Laude in August 2013. After brief employment as a transportation logistics coordinator for a 3rd party logistics company, Nick joined the PlaneSmart! team where he handles the scheduling and positioning logistics for clients, aircraft, crews and maintenance.
Jamie KingClient Services Assistant
Jamie’s background in aviation started five years ago working as an aviation electrician, specializing as a 2M repair tech, working on circuit cards and wire cables associated with F-18’s and C-130’s in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. She found her way into general aviation and first joined the Plane Smart staff working in our client services department. Jamie helped to provide quality assistance to all of our customers for all of their aviation needs. She has recently transitioned into our accounting department to expand her knowledge in the flow of operations.
Tracy MancinelliClient Services
Tracy is responsible for ongoing support as a Client Services Representative in our Austin and Houston markets. She acts as a liaison for clients, making sure the lines of communication continue to always remain open. Outstanding client services is an integral part of the PlaneSmart! Aviation philosophy and Tracy is dedicated to maintain this quality and service to exceed customer expectations. Tracy comes to us with a background in politics. Prior to working for PlaneSmart!, Tracy worked as a Legislative Aide in state government and on several political campaigns. Her passion for aviation comes from growing up in a home with a father who was an executive with American Airlines for more than 30 years.
Ryan is an accomplished CFI, CFII. He is an active instructor in PlaneSmart! Cirrus aircraft. Originally from Oklahoma, Ryan graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Professional Pilot degree. He began his flying career in Tulsa instructing international students, before moving down to Austin to fly for PlaneSmart!
Garrett is a recent addition to PlaneSmart! and is the Senior Pilot of the Austin base where he is responsible for managing flight operations. He recently retired from an accomplished military flying career in the United States Air Force where he piloted a variety of combat and non-combat aircraft including the A/OA-10, the T-38A/C, MQ-1B and the MC-12/BE300. Garrett is a Single-Engine and Multi-Engine Airline Transport Pilot with 3000+ hours. He has type ratings in the King Air 300/350 as well as the Cessna Citation 560 Ultra Business Jet and is qualified in the Pilatus PC-12 NG, having recently served as a Pilatus instructor for the Afghan Air Force. Garrett has a BS in Mathematics and an MBA.
Nick grew up in an aviation family. He started flying at 15 and soloed at 16 to soon received his private pilot’s license. He started his aviation career in Youngstown Ohio, working as a line service manager and a shop helper. Later He moved to avionics sales and training. Shortly after receiving his Multi Engine Commercial License he flew corporately in a King Air 350. Then moved on to fly for Continental Connection in Beech 1900 D’s and Dash 8’s. His previous job was working as a government contractor Flying B350’s doing Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance missions in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Nick came to Texas in 2010 to be the Lead Instructor pilot for his previous company, while still deploying overseas. Nick has accumulated over 4500 hours in multi engine turbine aircraft, and has a true passion for aviation. His Love of corporate aviation brought Him to PlaneSmart! in October 2014. He currently flies the Piaggio Avanti.

Peter Sharkey is currently attending UNT in Denton where he plans on getting his Bachelor in Arts and Applied Science. He has acquired his Associates in Aviation at Sinclair in Ohio, but has lived in the Dallas area for the majority of his life. Aviation is where Peter he has found his passion: He previously worked at various flight schools for a year, one being US Sport Aviation where he was a CFI/CFII Instructor. Peter is the newest edition to the PlaneSmart! Aviation Cirrus Instructing Team.
Lily AllishClient Services Assistant
Lily has joined our team as a Client Services Assistant in the Addison location. She has been a part of the aviation world since she was little—having a father as a private pilot and close family friends actively involved in the commercial airline industry. Lily spent her childhood homeschooled across from the small Air Park Runway in Plano where her father owned two Cessnas. Altough she isn’t a pilot, traveling is one of her many passions. She is currently attending Collin College as a part-time student where she anxiously awaits a decision in her career path. She would love to get to know all of you and find out about your interests and hobbies!
Born and raised in New Hampshire. He started his career in aviation as an aircraft mechanic on Lockheed C-5s. While Serving in the United States Air Force, he began working on his pilots certifications and degree. Graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide Campus in 2011 with a B.S. in Professional Aeronautics. After 10 years in the Air Force, he decided to pursue a career as a pilot full time. He started flying skydivers in Upstate NY. Then moved on to aerial survey flying cross country. His previous job was flying a PC-12 and PC-12NGs into places like the Northeast, Canada, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, St. Barth, the NY area and most of the Caribbean. He has 2400 total hours and 1200 in the PC-12 and PC-12NG.
Chad was born and raised in Cheshire, MA. He began flying in 2007 at Daniel Webster College in NH, graduating with a degree in Flight Operations and Aviation Business Management in 2011. While working part time as a Certified Flight Instructor after school, he was employed as an operations coordinator at Jetblue Airways in Boston, MA. Prior to his employment at PlaneSmart, Chad flew a Pilatus PC12 out of San Juan, Puerto Rico to all the islands of the Caribbean and from the New York City area to destinations all over the east coast and Canada. He has 2000+ flight hours, 1200 of which are in the PC12.
Brad was originally from Charleston SC. Prior to PlaneSmart! He flew for the airlines and charter operations. His aviation interest was sparked while he was serving in the US Air Force Reserve flying on the C17 as a Loadmaster. He has over 15 years of service and still active in the reserves. Brad holds an ATP and CFII and have a Bachelor of Science from Park University. He has 2,000 hours mostly in turbine and jet aircraft. He is currently flying the TBM700, Meridian, and Cirrus.
David Harless joins PlaneSmart as a pilot for the Austin market, flying the Pilatus PC-12 and Cirrus fleets. After graduating from Westminster College in 2007 with a degree in Aviation, he then took a position with Sky Safety as a flight instructor. Having instructed for a while, David had the opportunity to become a line pilot for Flight Express. Prior to PlaneSmart David was the Chief Pilot for Western Aviators in Denver Colorado. He currently holds certifications as a CFI, CFII, MEI, with well over 4,000 hours as an accomplished pilot.
